Vision
As your School Board representative, I aim to incorporate my experience with technology, business and analysis to focus on the future of education. Within this role, I want to ensure the children in our community are prepared to face the economic, political and technological challenges that are accelerating at a pace we have never experienced. I want to give them the tools to succeed not only in higher education or within the workplace, but also within a society that demands their participation.
I know that we are living in difficult economic times, and that we have asked for additional financial contributions in recent referendums. As your representative, I will ensure that there is transparency in how your money is spent, and that it will be spread out equitably to where the needs are greatest. This includes reviewing current teacher compensation, evaluating fair market wages that attract and keep the best teachers, and school facility improvements that keep our children safe and secure.
About Me
I am running for Seat 7 for the Madison Metropolitan School Board because I want to ensure that we prepare the next generation of citizens for the business, societal and political challenges we will face in the future. I graduated from Madison West High School, including graduation from the Youth Apprenticeship program in Information Technology. After being raised by two former teachers, I became interested in how people learn when I began to struggle with classroom lectures and self-guided homework. At the time, I was fortunate to have a mother who worked for the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) and was aware of the Youth Apprenticeship program at West. Within this program, I was able to explore my love of technology using hands-on learning, and getting real-world experience at a local biotech company. Following high school, I earned a degree in Information Systems at Madison College, thus beginning a 25-year career in Technology. Throughout my time in this field, I have paid close attention to how technology informs education and the way people absorb information.
In addition to my career, I have been passionate about politics my entire adult life. I believe we have a responsibility to be well-informed and participate in our democracy and our communities. Whether it was knocking on doors to canvass for local or national candidates, fundraising for local candidates, or phonebanking for campaigns or causes I support, I have taken an active role in our shared future.
In 2019, I joined a leadership organization called New Leaders Council (NLC) to further my education in campaigning, while networking with other young thought leaders. After completing the NLC Institute, I joined the board as Secretary/Treasurer to continue the mission of educating the next generation of leaders. The knowledge and connections made here set the foundation for my desire to apply what I had learned to helping my local community. These experiences in school, work and within the community have prepared me to be your next representative for School Board Seat 7.
